The Kali Gandaki River (lower) is a relatively easy and long river which has unspoilt and beautiful sceneries along its course. The small gorges, abundance of wildlife and jungles make it a relaxing trip. The river is accessible and the trip down it is quite relaxing. The upper part of this river lies above Ramdi below which it flows to east in open valley for about a 100 Km. It joins the Trishuli River at Devghat and the flows onward to the Ganges and into the Indian Ocean. The river side has no roads, no tourists around only peace, calm and serenity. The local people are unspoilt and friendly. The lush green exploited vegetation and untouched villages around add up to the beauty of this trip.
The grade of this rafting experience is pretty mediocre with mostly grade 2 rapids and one grade 3 rapid. The rafting can be undertaken with small floatable boats as well as kayaks depending on the number, age, adventure expectations and the holiday preferences of those indulging in the river rafting experience.
The equipment required for rafting would be transported by road directly to the rafting location. The trip begins form Ramdi (270 mts) and ends at Naraynghat (180 kms). The trip is a gentle floating one with gentle currents that make up for an adventure with family and children. There are rapids in plenty although these are mainly class 2 rapids that add up to the adventure but are still very safe. There is just one class 3 rapid along the way that can be easily crossed. This is an ideal trip for those who do not want to get wet in the river are apprehensive about the white water raft this is a pleasant water trip that promises thrill and safety. It is a perfect getaway with few bridges, trails and villages along the way.
The trekking base of this trip is Pokhara which can be reached from Kathmandu through road in about 6-7 hours. From Pokhara we hit the river and after 2-3 hours of rafting we camp overnight at Modi Khola. The next day we raft to reach just above the Seti Beni rapid. More rafting and take out at the confluence of the Andhi Khola.
From Andhi Khola one can take a bus to Pokhara and then drive or fly back to Kathmandu.
The trip is ideal for those who want to indulge in family raft adventure with children and do not want to take much risk since the waters are pretty low and manageable. The river trip has become more easy and accessible due to the dam built close to the merging of the Andhi Khola.
Since the rafting grade is medium, no training or course needs to be undertaken to indulge in this rafting experience and it can be easily enjoyed even with family and children.
